Animal Cruelty Laws Need Changes (Annotated Article #3)

"Animal Cruelty Laws: The Case For Reform" Charles E. Friend argues that the human race is sad, due to the fact that people think justice and benevolence of men have risen with animal protection laws. He claims that the neglect, torture, and destruction of helpless and innocent animals have become so common that it is known as basic human nature. Friend makes this claim by first investigating back to mid-nineteenth century when the few laws that existed were mainly for the owners, not the animals. Friend describes to us how the justice and benevolence of men has not risen. He also informs us that the common law stated that animals were the owner's property and they could do whatever to that animal; such as torture, starvation, and killing. Charles E. Friend's purpose is to argue that men are not doing things for the better of animals in order to give us two sides, or opinions, of "men." This work is significant because it proves that men are not doing what is good for animals. Also, it clearly states that the animal cruelty laws in place are not effective and are in need of reform. That basically answers my essential question, which is, "Are Animals Abuse Laws Really Effective?". Works Cited: Friend , Charles. "ANIMAL CRUELTY LAWS: THE CASE FOR REFORM." HeinOnline. Answers to Our Questions (Annotated Article #2)

"Frequently Asked Questions about Animal Cruelty" HSUS debates whether animal cruelty is a concern for just the animals, or if it is concerning for other humans, too. They claim that animal cruelty is a wrong act. It not only shows what kind of person you are, but it can also display a sign of psychological distress. HSUS creates this claim by first investigating the cause of abuse, which can often be that they have also been a victim of abuse. HSUS states that those convicted of animal abuse cruelty or abuse can go to jail. However, usually, they are resorted to some form of counseling and probation, instead. Last but not least, they inform us that in order to make successful prosecutions, the witness should be identifiable. HSUS's purpose is to answer the most commonly asked questions about animal cruelty in order to inform us about it so we will have more knowledge on it. This article is important because it informs us on why animal cruelty is a concern, the reason for the abuse, what connections it has to other forms of abuse, the result of the prosecution of an animal abuse case, and some small tips on how to help. This shows that is has a lot of useful information. Works Cited: "Frequently Asked Questions about Animal Cruelty." The Humane Society of the United States. Increase in Admissions in Animal Rescue League (Annotated Article #1)

"Animal Rescue League faces 148% increase in admissions" Samantha Arroyo argues that the shelter has seen over 100% increase in admissions and an increase in animals taken in through cruetly/neglect cases. She also claims that even with the increase in adoption, they cannot ignore the debt they are consuming in their medical budget. Even though they are doing their best to help the animals that are coming in, their budget for medical and veternarian bills are through the roof. Arroyo develops this claim by first illustrating the overspending by investing why and how much they are overspending. Arroyo explains what causes the increase in both admissions and overspending. Lastly, she states that the animal abuse is also caused because owners are trying to relieve stress. Samantha Arroyo's purpose is to inform us of the trouble they are experiencing with the increase of everything that has been going on with shelter admissions and their debt due to medical bills in order to keep us aware and let us know how we can help. This work is significant because it supports my statement that animals abuse has increased. It not only supports that, but it gives information, facts, and statistics to back it up. Also, it gives side information about some of the causes of the abuse, what effects the increase has on the shelter, and what we can do to help. Works Cited: Arroyo, Samantha.
