The Story behind My Topic

Are Animal Abuse Laws Really Effective?
According to the Humane Society, “The shocking number of cruelty cases reported daily in the media is only the tip of the iceberg. Most cases are never reported, and most animal suffering goes unrecognized and unabated.”(Humane Society of The United States) Hundreds of animals a year suffer through pain so unimaginable to us, so much physical abuse, that their bodies give up. “In the year 2007, there were around 1,880 animal abuse cases reported.” (Batul Nafisa Baxamusa) If these the laws that were made to help the abused and deceased animals truly worked, the number of recorded animal abuse cases would not be reaching that high. We have these laws created for a reason; which is to reduce and hopefully stop animal abuse. If the abuse is still occurring, maybe even increasing, then how effective are the laws? Cold, heartless human beings are harming their innocent pets and the sad part is half of them get away with it. These poor, helpless animals do not deserve the pain and punishment they are put through every day, for doing what? Being loyal and loving their owner? That is unfair and cruel. No animal deserves to be put through what some of these animals have had to endure; and they cannot even speak up for themselves. That is what the laws are for; to stop the animals from the terrible abuse and to be the voices of the animals, but they are doing a poor job at that.
